My neighbor's simple suggestion cut my energy bill by $60 a month

My neighbor Bob, who's been doing home repairs for 30 years, told me last fall to put weather stripping on my front door and attic hatch. I figured it was just some old man advice and ignored it for months. Then I finally did it in February after my heating bill hit $180. My March bill dropped to $120 just from sealing those two gaps. Has anyone else found a cheap fix like this that made a real difference?

That "old man advice" part got me. I read somewhere that most homes lose like 30% of their heat through small gaps you can't even see. My own dad told me to check my dryer vent flap, since those things barely seal after a few years. I swapped mine out for about fifteen bucks and saw a drop on my gas bill the next month. It's wild how these tiny fixes add up, especially in winter when your furnace runs nonstop. You really gotta trust the folks who've been around the block with houses.

@terry_carter15 that dryer vent tip is genius. Nobody ever thinks about that one.
