My old neighborhood block party used to be all about grilling and plastic cups

We tried to make it zero waste last year and the big problem was finding a local farm that would take our food scraps for compost. I called around for what felt like ages, maybe two months, before a place in the next county over finally said yes. It took way longer than I thought to just figure out where the waste would go. Has anyone else had a hard time setting up composting for a big group event?

Check if your city has a municipal compost program first. Some towns will give you a bin for events like that. It would have saved you all those phone calls.

Our city's program only takes yard waste, not food scraps. @avery_smith22 is right to check that first. You might also try a community garden in your own neighborhood, they often have compost piles and might say yes. For our block party, we found a guy with backyard chickens who took all our fruit and veggie scraps.
