Shoutout to the guy who convinced me about heat pumps in Maine

I thought they'd be useless in our cold winters, but my neighbor got one installed in his old farmhouse last October and his heating bill dropped by almost 40% compared to his old oil system. Seeing his real numbers and feeling how warm his place stayed during that big snowstorm in January completely changed my mind. Has anyone else made the switch in a really cold climate and been surprised?

That's awesome it worked for them. Just a heads up though, the big drop in his bill probably also came from swapping out an old, inefficient oil furnace. A new system of any kind would help.

Yeah but how bad are those old furnaces really? I had one for years and it was fine, maybe a bit noisy. The bills weren't crazy, just normal winter costs. People act like you're burning money just by having it.

Right, my old one was just "normal winter costs" too!
