My portfolio site went from 5 seconds to load down to 1.5 after I compressed my images
I didn't realize how much my huge PNG files were slowing everything down until I ran a speed test last week. Used a free tool called TinyPNG and it made a crazy difference. Anyone else have a simple fix that gave their project a big boost?

My first site was just one giant uncompressed JPEG.

Oh man, that takes me back! I did the exact same thing with a huge GIF of my dog. The whole page was just that one image with clickable spots mapped over it. Took forever to load on dial-up, just a single blurry picture slowly appearing from the top down. We really had no idea what we were doing back then.

Remember when we thought image maps were peak web design? @jamesm48 and I were out here building sites that would give a modern dev a heart attack. My masterpiece was a single pixelated background tile that repeated forever.
