Got in a shouting match at a con over first printings
At Baltimore Comic Con last fall, some guy told me my 1st print of Swamp Thing #37 was fake. Said the cover gloss was off. I stood there while he pulled out a loupe and checked the UPC box. 15 minutes of back and forth over paper stock. Turned out mine was a later printing from a different plant. Guy was right. Now I bring a cheap loupe to every show. Anybody else have a collector school them on details you never noticed?

I used to be the guy rolling his eyes at people pulling out loupes at cons, thought it was pure snobbery. But after buying a "bargain" copy of Amazing Spider-Man #300 that turned out to be a 3rd print with a glued spine, I completely flipped. The paper stock felt different, the colors were slightly muddier, and the store owner wouldn't take it back. Now I bring a cheap loupe to every show and I feel like a jerk for ever judging those guys. Did you end up trading that Swamp Thing for a real first print or just keep it as a lesson?

Man, I kept it as a brutal reminder to always check first.
