That old comment about using a tiny brush for memes actually fixed my problem

I used to just mash up random images in Paint when I wanted to make a reaction meme. The text always looked like garbage and the cropping was awful. Then I saw a comment on a meme page about using the eraser tool at 3px size instead of lasso selection. Tried it on a 200x200 image last night and the difference was insane. Clean cuts, no jagged edges, took maybe 2 minutes instead of 15. Has anyone else found a random comment that saved them time like that?

Oh wow, I gotta be honest here - I actually disagree with this one. I mean, I get why people love those little tricks they find in the comments, but for me, the eraser tool at 3px always leaves this weird fuzzy halo around the edges that drives me nuts. I'd rather take the extra 10 minutes with the lasso and just zoom in real close, even if it's a pain. Different strokes for different folks, I guess, but I've had too many memes ruined by that method when the background color doesn't match perfectly.

Yeah but you gotta admit, once you get the hang of the feather tool it changes everything. I used to be team lasso all the way too, I feel your pain on the 3px eraser halo thing though, that's real. But try this next time - select with the lasso first, then hit the refine edge button and bump the feather up just a tiny bit. It smooths out those jagged edges without leaving that ugly halo. I messed up so many memes before I figured that out, now I fly through backgrounds in like 2 minutes flat.
