Found a weird fix for a laptop that wouldn't charge after a spill
A client brought in a gaming laptop last week that got soda spilled on it. It powered on but the battery wouldn't charge past 1%. I cleaned the board, checked the DC-in jack, and the charger was fine. Out of ideas, I pulled the CMOS battery for a full minute while the main battery was out too. Plugged it all back in and the charging circuit just woke up and started working normally. Has anyone else had a BIOS reset fix a charging issue like that?

Had the same thing happen with a coffee spill on an older Dell. Did a full board clean with no luck until I cleared the CMOS. Sometimes the power management just gets stuck in a weird state. A hard reset can kick it loose.

Wait, didn't I see a Linus Tech Tips video about that? They had a weird power issue that a CMOS clear fixed too... makes sense it could get confused after a spill.
