Spent a whole afternoon on a printer that was just unplugged

A client brought in a desktop saying their USB ports were dead, and I spent over 4 hours checking drivers, BIOS, and even swapping the motherboard. Turns out the surge protector under their desk was switched off. Has anyone else had a simple fix hide behind hours of diagnostics?

Oh man, that's the worst feeling. Once had a laptop that wouldn't charge no matter what. Replaced the power jack, the battery, the whole board. The user's cat had chewed the actual cable near the plug, but the damage was hidden under the desk leg. Felt like a total genius after that one.

My old boss made us check the cable first every single time, which felt silly until it saved us. Henry189 is right about overthinking the hard stuff while missing the basics. I learned to start simple the hard way too.
