Unpopular opinion: The 'just reinstall Windows' advice is lazy and hurts our trade

A client in Phoenix told me I was just a 'button pusher' after I suggested a fresh OS install for a weird driver issue. I started actually digging into logs and found a corrupted registry key from an old printer driver in under 30 minutes. How many of you actually do real troubleshooting versus the nuclear option?

Total cop out. Saw a shop wipe a whole drive for a boot loop. It was a single bad startup entry. Took me five minutes with a USB tool. People just don't want to learn the actual systems anymore. Makes the whole field look bad.

That "makes the whole field look bad" part is so frustrating to see.

Totally get where you're coming from. I mean, reading what dianal94 said about the boot loop thing, it's just lazy work. That kind of stuff makes customers not trust any of us, even the people who actually try to fix things right. Feels like some shops just go for the easiest fix for them, not the right one for the customer.
