Stopped by an old job site in Pittsburgh yesterday and saw they still use the same Grove RT I ran back in 2009

Honestly I've gotta push back on that "same" crane thing. Machines that old develop weird quirks - like that specific RT probably has a sticky swing brake and a joystick that drifts to the left by now. I've seen crews avoid certain cranes because they've got too many hours and the hydraulics start acting up. Plus safety standards have changed a ton since 2009, so running that same model now is kind of rolling the dice on things like load indicators and backup alarms. Sometimes keeping the old workhorse around is more about budget than it being the best tool for the job.

Man yeah that's a solid point about the safety gear. Those older machines don't even have the same kind of load moment indicators that come standard now, plus the backup alarms are way quieter. It's like driving a car from 2009 and expecting it to have the same crash safety as something fresh off the lot.
