Am I the only one who thinks being 'nice' in comment sections backfires?
I was in my studio last Tuesday editing a video about fixing a cracked phone screen, and I posted a preview to a creator group. Someone said my soldering technique was 'sloppy' and I politely explained why I did it that way. Instead of a friendly chat, they doubled down and three others piled on, basically telling me to take the criticism better. I ended up deleting the whole thread and rethinking if I even want to share behind-the-scenes stuff anymore. Has anyone else had a moment where being respectful just made things worse?

Yeah it just makes people think you're being defensive even when you're not. It's like being polite somehow gives them permission to be meaner because now they see you as an easy target.

Hold on a second there. I actually think being polite does the opposite most of the time. Being polite usually makes people back off because they don't know how to fight with someone who's being nice. The real problem is when you're polite but also quiet or nervous looking, then yeah people might try to push. But straight up polite with a normal tone of voice? That usually throws people off.

Doesn't it just feel like you can't win sometimes?
