Just realized my whole video intro approach was wrong after a 15 minute chat with a viewer

I was at a local coffee shop in Portland last week and this guy recognized my channel. He said he almost clicked off my last video because the intro was too loud and busy. He told me he watches creators who get straight to the point in the first 10 seconds. I thought flashy intros kept people watching but I went back and checked my analytics. Turns out 40% of my viewers drop off in the first 20 seconds. Has anyone else found that shorter quieter intros actually keep people around longer?

Maybe those flashy intros just train people to tune out faster since they expect more noise... quieter hooks make viewers lean in instead of immediately reaching for the skip button. Kinda funny how less attention-grabbing can actually grab more attention in the long run.

Totally agree, a slow start actually made me pay more attention to one of my favorite channels.
