That day I accidentally deleted my entire project file 3 hours before upload

I was cleaning up old drafts and hit delete on the wrong folder without checking the trash. Ever since then I keep a manual backup on a USB stick I hide in my desk drawer.

Man I did something similar back in college, lost my entire thesis draft two days before it was due. Ended up pulling an all nighter rewriting it from memory and some notes I had scrawled on napkins. That USB stick trick works until you lose it, happens to me every six months or so. Now I just use Google Drive with version history, saved my butt more times than I can count. Still keep a physical copy of important stuff on an external hard drive though, can't trust the cloud completely.

Right? Nothing worse than that sinking feeling when you realize your only copy is gone. @charles_kelly43 you're dead on about version history being a lifesaver though. I had a client file get corrupted last year and Google Drive let me roll it back to the day before the mess happened. But I hear you on not fully trusting the cloud either. I do the same thing with an external drive plus a second copy on a different cloud service. It's overkill until it saves your skin.
