My old MySpace layout code just surfaced in my email from 2007

I was cleaning out an old Yahoo inbox last night and found a message I sent to a friend with the full HTML for my glittery star background and auto-playing Fall Out Boy song. It took me back to spending 3 hours tweaking the divs so my profile pic would sit perfectly next to the 'Tom' comment box. Why did I think an epilepsy warning of flashing gifs was peak personality, and has anyone else dug up their ancient code and felt instant secondhand shame?

Heard a podcast recently about how MySpace layouts were basically everyone's first coding lesson, and now we're all embarrassed we ever thought autoplay music was cool. lol I bet that Fall Out Boy track still slaps though.

Remember those layouts taught us more about troubleshooting than any computer class I ever took, since we had to fix broken codes just to get our profiles to stop looking like static. That messy skill set is probably why half of us ended up in tech jobs we never planned for.
