Appreciation post: my smoke detector finally shut up after I realized I'd been dropping frozen food into 350 degree oil for 8 months without patting it dry first.

I mean how long does it take for water to explode in hot oil because mine was like 45 seconds and the kitchen greasy fog lasted 3 days before I figured it out from a reddit comment, has anyone else had a 'wait that's why' moment with their deep fryer?

Wait, you were dropping wet food in and it took you 8 months to figure that out?

Nah it's not 45 seconds, more like 10. Water hits hot oil and pops instantly.

So you're telling me that's the reason? I always thought my smoke detector was just overly sensitive or something. I used to get this greasy fog in the kitchen all the time after frying, and I assumed it was normal. Then I read a comment online about patting food dry, and my whole world shifted. Now I pat everything dry and my kitchen stays clear, no more fog for days.
