That alternate ending for 'The Village' on the Blu-ray completely changes the whole movie
I saw it in the extras last night and it shows the creatures were actually real in the end, not just costumes, which makes every character's fear actually justified, has anyone else found a deleted scene that totally flips the original story on its head?

Wait, the monsters are actually real in that version? That's insane, I need to see this.

Wait, are we talking about the same alternate ending? @max_ross, you might be thinking of a fan edit or something, because the actual deleted scene on the Blu-ray doesn't show the creatures as real. It just has a longer shot of the elders arguing in the council room where they admit the story about the creatures was partly based on a real incident from the town's past. The monsters are still costumes in that version too. The theatrical twist isn't cheap, it just makes the lesson about fear being a tool a lot more pointed. A real monster would have actually ruined the whole point of the movie for me.

Used to think the original ending was fine, but that alternate version changed my mind completely. In the theatrical cut you just get this cheap gotcha twist that makes the whole thing feel pointless. But when the creatures are actually real, suddenly the elders aren't just paranoid weirdos, they're legitimately trying to protect everyone from something terrifying. That final scene where the monsters are watching from the treeline hits completely different too. Makes me wish they went with this version instead.
