Warning: Got roasted for my old torque wrench method on a Detroit 60 series

A veteran tech in Tulsa told me 'you're leaving 50 ft-lbs on the table with that click-and-go crap' after a head gasket failed. Now I always do a final pull with a calibrated beam wrench, anyone else switch up their routine after getting called out?

My uncle swore by beam wrenches after a wheel nearly fell off his plow truck.

Seriously? A head gasket fails and we're blaming the wrench type? That seems like a stretch.

You trust a beam wrench more than a clicker? Those old beams can get bent or the needle sticks. My clicker gets checked every year and has never lied to me.
