Appreciation post: that moment I realized my layers were all merged wrong

I was sitting at my desk at 2am trying to figure out why my character's hand looked weird, and then I saw I'd flattened 14 layers way too early on a $500 commission piece and had to start the whole shading over.

$500 is $500 but honestly you can probably fix it with some blending and nobody will notice but you.

@the_sandra says that like her hair hasn't looked worse after a DIY kit.

...and honestly that's the thing about art and life in general right? We get so deep into the details we forget to check the big picture until it's too late. It's like when you're cooking dinner and you add salt three times because you're not tasting as you go, then the whole dish is ruined. Or when you're fixing a broken shelf and you keep drilling holes in the wrong spot because you didn't measure twice. That moment where you realize you've been working hard but working wrong is brutal, but it's also how you learn to slow down next time.
