Was Team Compost Bin Until I Actually Tried A Tumbler

I spent two years doing a pile in the corner of my yard in Phoenix and thought tumblers were just overpriced plastic. Then my neighbor let me use her dual chamber tumbler for a month and I flipped completely. My pile took 8 months to break down but her tumbler gave me usable compost in just 6 weeks. Anyone else have a similar switch or am I late to this party?

My 8 month pile made me a convert too. The speed totally sold me.

Man, I tried speed stacking once. Dropped the whole pile on my foot.

@grace508 I get what you're saying about speed being the selling point. But here's something that doesn't get talked enough - that pile builds up way faster than you expect. I had one go about 14 months and by month 10 I was adding stuff just to see if it would tip over. It became less about the pile itself and more about the game of it. The speed you mentioned probably helps keep it from getting boring. But I think a lot of folks don't realize how much patience it takes to get that far. It's not all about the finish line.
