Went to a friend's new house in Portland and their bathroom tile job is driving me nuts
Honestly, I was over there for a BBQ last weekend and had to use the downstairs bathroom. The tile work on the shower surround is just... bad. The grout lines are all different widths, some tiles are clearly not level, and in one corner there's a cut piece that's maybe a quarter inch too short, leaving this weird sliver of grout. I know they did it themselves to save money, and I get that, but it's all I could look at. Tbh, it's the kind of thing that once you see it, you can't unsee it. It makes the whole otherwise nice bathroom look cheap. I didn't say anything because I'm not a jerk, but it's been bugging me. Has anyone else had to quietly judge a friend's DIY project that they were clearly proud of?

Man, that sounds exactly like my cousin's backsplash. All I could see were the wavy lines. It's tough when you notice the little flaws that they probably don't see anymore. Kind of makes you just want to stare at your shoes instead.

You said it makes the whole bathroom look cheap, but I kind of see the opposite. That little sliver of grout? It means they tried. They saved their own money and put in the work. In a world of perfect fake stuff, a real person's slightly off tile job has its own charm. Who are we to judge the free labor of a friend?
