My backup mic finally saved a live stream meltdown
Hosting a giveaway stream last Friday, my main mic died 10 minutes in. I grabbed the $30 lav I almost left at home, clipped it to my shirt, and nobody noticed the swap. Has anyone else had backup gear come through at the worst moment?

Nah, that's just luck, not planning, and people definitely noticed that cheap mic sound.

Is there really such a thing as pure luck in these situations though? I had a similar issue with my setup last year, audio was pretty rough on like half my videos. What helped me was just being honest about it in the video, saying the mic was on the fritz and I was working on it. People actually responded way better to that than when I tried to hide it or pretend it sounded intentional. The cheap sound stops being the main topic once you acknowledge it, then they focus on the content again. And I spent the next month saving for a decent mic, but being upfront bought me that time.
