Just cleared 500 hours on the old cutter head without a major rebuild
We were working a tough stretch of the Ohio River, pulling up a lot of old timber and rock. The boss had the new parts on order, expecting a shutdown any day. Checked the logs yesterday and we're past 500 hours with no real drop in suction. It's a small thing, but it feels good to know we're keeping it running smooth. Anyone else get a weirdly long run out of a piece of gear you were sure was done for?

That's solid time on a cutter head. Just a heads up, the 320D's main hydraulic pump is usually good for about 10,000 hours before you even think about it. The 800 hours past prediction was probably for a different part, like a final drive or a swing motor. Those fail way more often on that model.

Our old Cat 320D excavator went 800 hours past its predicted pump failure. Sometimes you just get lucky with the iron.

Man, that is some SERIOUS luck right there. We had a 330DL that ran its swing gearbox for nearly 1200 hours past when the oil analysis said it was toast. Just kept on chugging until we finally parked it for a different job. Some of those older machines are built like absolute tanks. Makes you wonder if the predictions are sometimes just a little too careful, you know?
