Heads up on the new condos going up on 5th and Elm
Walked the site yesterday. They're using a lightweight board I haven't seen before, feels way too soft. Saw a few sheets already sagging before the tape even went on. Anyone else run into this stuff yet?

Heard the same thing from a supplier rep last week. They said some plants are mixing more recycled paper into the facing to save money. That extra give means it won't hold a finish over time, especially with any humidity. I bet we see cracks at every seam in a year. Makes you wonder what else they're cheaping out on we can't see yet.

My buddy over in the Brookfield district said the same thing about a soft board last month. He thinks it's a new paper-faced product trying to cut weight. Could be a bad batch or just a really poor choice for ceiling work.
