DIY vs pro kitchen reno after watching a buddy's cabinet job fall apart

I was helping a friend swap out his old kitchen cabinets in his house off 82 Ave and watched him try to save cash by doing the measurements himself. He ended up 2 inches off on the uppers and had to shim everything like crazy. Now I'm wondering if hiring a pro for layout is worth the extra $500 or if that's just a waste when you're already deep into a reno. Who here has gone full DIY on cabinets and regretted it or saved real money?

Nah, $500 for layout is steep unless your buddy is completely useless with a tape measure lol.
