Unpopular opinion: I think polyurethane is overrated for Edmonton basement floors

Last winter we finished our basement in Mill Woods and I went with epoxy instead. The concrete was pretty damp from all that snow melt and everyone online said poly is the only way. After 3 days of curing the epoxy held up fine but I had to grind down a high spot in the corner where the old slab dipped. The installer said I wasted $800 on the wrong material but honestly it's been 8 months with zero peeling. Did anyone else skip the popular product and get better results in a cold climate?

My buddy in Leduc did the same thing with his garage floor last spring. He went with a water-based epoxy over polyurea because the temperature was all over the place during install. Eight months of trucks and salt melt later and it's still solid with one tiny chip near the door track. It's like people forget that the best product on paper doesn't always win in real conditions with all the moisture and temp swings we get here. Your mileage may vary but I've seen too many "perfect" poly jobs bubble up or peel from trapped moisture in this city.

Yeah poly is way overhyped for basements here. Epoxy done right beats it every time.
