Vent: My boss wanted me to use aluminum for a whole house rewire, I pushed for copper

We were doing a big job in a 1970s split-level, and the supply house only had the aluminum we needed in stock that day. I told him I'd rather wait a week for the copper to come in, even with the price jump (it was about $300 more for the whole job). He agreed, but we had to push the finish date back. The homeowner was fine with it once we explained the long term benefits, like less chance of connection issues down the road. Has anyone else had to make a call like that recently?

Man, that's a tough spot... but you made the right call for the house. How did you explain the "connection issues" part to the homeowner without making it sound too scary?

Honestly, is a bad connection even that big of a deal? Gavin's right, some jobs just look rough no matter what. I'd just tell them the line got nicked and needs a clean fix.

Good call, my aluminum work looks like a toddler did it.
