Can we talk about the elevator inspection tags in Chicago?

Was at the Thompson Center yesterday and half the tags were faded to blank. If the inspector cant even keep a sticker readable how do we trust the safety checks? Anybody else deal with that in older buildings?

You say "a faded sticker is just a sticker" but that sticker is the only proof most of us ever see that someone actually checked the thing. If the city can't be bothered to print durable tags or replace them yearly, they're basically daring people to ignore safety rules entirely. I've been in enough rickety old building elevators to want that piece of paper actually readable, even if the digital records exist somewhere.

Honestly this feels like a reach lmao. Half the tags in any big building in this city are probably faded or peeling off. Those stickers sit there for years getting sun bleached and rubbed on by people's jackets. The actual inspection records are probably digital somewhere or on a clipboard that gets filed. My old office on LaSalle had a tag from 2019 that looked completely blank and the elevator ran fine every day. Not saying skip inspections but a faded sticker is just a sticker.

Wait, are we supposed to be actually reading those stickers or just nodding at them like I do with my building's fire escape plans? Mine's so faded it might as well say "good luck" instead.
