That one building manager who told me to "just fix it quiet" after hours
Guy in a high rise downtown Chicago told me to run the backup generator at 2am instead of shutting the whole elevator down for a safety inspection. I told him no and he tried to call my boss, but the safety log showed three prior code violations in that same machine room. Has anyone else had a property manager try to push you past safety rules?

Two years ago I had a building super in Brooklyn tell me to just "slap a bandaid on it" when I found a frayed cable in the elevator pit. I sent him a photo of the damage and the city inspector's direct number. He stopped pushing after that.

Man, that's the kind of thing that really grinds my gears... landlords and supers thinking they can just brush off safety stuff like it's nothing. A frayed cable in an elevator pit is no joke - that's a straight-up fire hazard waiting to happen. You did the right thing, though... sometimes you gotta show them you're not messing around with that kind of negligence. It's wild how many people would just let it slide, but you called their bluff and that's exactly what it takes. I've seen too many stories of people getting hurt because someone was too cheap to fix something right the first time. Good on you for standing your ground.
