A buddy in my DnD group last night said the 'this is fine' meme is actually about denial, not acceptance
He argued it's not a joke about things being okay, it's about people who refuse to acknowledge their situation is on fire until it's too late. Has anyone else ever had a meme completely flipped on them like that?

Wait, is that actually the intended meaning? I used to just see it as a funny comic about things being a mess but you just roll with it. But now that I think about it, the dog sitting there with everything literally on fire kinda makes more sense as denial. Like we all do that thing where we convince ourselves "it's fine, it's fine" when everything is clearly going wrong. My buddy in our group did that with his character last campaign - insisted his wizard was fine while he was literally on fire and at 2 HP. The meme lands way different now.

Wow, yeah. That kinda ruins the meme for me in a good way. Makes it way darker but way more real too.

Wait, 2 HP? Your buddy was literally smoking and still said "I'm fine"? That is both hilarious and terrifyingly relatable. I had a friend in our last campaign who lost a leg to a trap and kept yelling "it's just a flesh wound" like he was in Monty Python. The denial thing is so real though, I think we all do that in life too, not just in games. It's like our brains have this panic button that just makes us smile and say everything's okay when it's clearly not.
