Finally got my cold air intake to stop whistling after three weekends of messing with it

Installed a new cold air intake on my 2018 5.0L and it had this annoying high-pitched whistle at 2500 RPM. I checked every clamp, resealed the MAF sensor, and even swapped out the filter. Turns out, the little rubber gasket on the intake tube itself had a tiny tear I couldn't see. A $5 part from the auto store and ten minutes later, it was totally quiet. I must have spent a good 15 hours total pulling my hair out over that sound. Anyone else run into a weird noise that took forever to track down?

Oh man, I feel that pain so much. I had a weird rattle in my old truck that only happened on left turns, drove me nuts for a month. I tore apart the whole dash thinking it was a loose vent. Turns out it was a single socket wrench I'd left in the door pocket rolling around. I mean, 15 hours sounds about right for that kind of hunt.

Nah, I gotta disagree on this one. Fifteen hours is wild to me. I get the hunt, but that's like a whole weekend gone. My rule is if I can't find a noise in under an hour, it's officially part of the car's personality. I'd just turn the radio up. Life's too short to pull a dash apart over a rattle.

My buddy had a mystery buzz in his Honda for years. He replaced motor mounts, checked the heat shield, everything. Sold the car last month and the new owner texted him a picture of a single acorn in the glove box. It was rolling into a corner on hard stops. We still laugh about it.
