Was dead set against aftermarket intakes until I tried one

I was always told the factory air box was good enough and aftermarket ones just suck in hot engine air. Spent like $350 on a cold air intake from a local shop in Austin last month. After 3 weeks of driving I checked my fuel economy and it went up by about 1.5 mpg on the highway. What convinced me more was the throttle felt snappier at 45 mph merging. Anyone else see real gains or did I just get lucky?

My luck would probably be the opposite where I install a cold air intake and somehow lose 2 mpg because I accidentally sucked up a puddle or something. Nice to hear yours actually worked out though. 1.5 mpg is legit, especially on the highway where the stock box usually does fine. I'm still running the factory setup on my 2015 Mustang because I'm scared of messing with the MAF sensor and throwing a code.

Actually your puddle comment reminds me of something I read on one of the Mustang forums last week. Some guy hydro locked his engine with a cheap intake that had the filter sitting way low in the bumper. Scary stuff. But the MAF sensor thing is real though, I messed around with mine on my old truck and it threw a lean code that took forever to figure out. The stock box on the 2015s is pretty solid from what I've heard, especially if you're not chasing every last horsepower.
