Unpopular opinion: My feed's speed painting obsession is a total fad
I've been painting for a decade and sharing online, but these quick clips miss the point of art... They're fun for a scroll, but won't hold attention long. Real creativity takes time, not seconds.

Wait, speed painting videos do more than just fill feeds. They break down complex art into steps you can actually follow, like those cooking shows that make gourmet meals seem doable. Yes, real art takes time, but these clips get people excited about the process. Dismissing them as a fad feels like gatekeeping. They're a tool, not the enemy of traditional painting.

I watched a 60 second speed paint of a landscape last week. The artist skipped all the color mixing and underpainting that actually takes hours to learn. Calling it a tool feels generous when it's mostly just a cool visual effect.

Lol @torres.mary it's not that deep. Those videos are just entertainment. Doubt most people are really learning from them.
