Unpopular opinion: Fabric store lighting makes color matching impossible
I was picking out thread for a dress I'm sketching... and under the store lights, everything looked perfect. Got home and the teal I chose is totally green in natural light. This happens every time I try to match shades for a project. The fluorescent bulbs in most fabric shops wash out the true colors, so you can't trust what you see. I've ended up with mismatched pieces more than once because of it. How do you all get around this? Do you bring color swatches outside to check, or is there a trick I'm missing? It's frustrating when a design idea gets messed up by something as simple as bad lighting.

Do you check it in the parking lot? Those store lights lie... every single time.

Ever wonder if stores pick lighting to hide flaws in the fabric? How many projects have been ruined by this simple trick? Why hasn't there been a push for honest lighting in these places? Do you think they know and just don't care? What would it take to make them change?

Can we start a class action lawsuit against fabric stores for emotional damage? I swear those lights are a deliberate trap, like they get a kickback from people who have to buy extra fabric after a "green, no wait, teal" disaster. My closet is a monument to colors that only exist under their lying bulbs.
