Burping jars daily is a sign your airlock setup is wrong
If you're opening your jars to release pressure every day, you're letting in oxygen and risking mold. Get proper airlocks or self-burping lids they're $15 for a set and stop messing with the seal. Anyone else ditch the daily burp routine and see better results?

oh man, i feel you on this one so hard. i used to be the person burping my jars every single day and it drove me nuts. i was like "why do people make this look so easy when i'm literally sweating over glass jars?" and then i tried self burping lids and it was a total game changer. my success rate went way up after i stopped opening them all the time. you're absolutely right about the oxygen thing, i never thought about it that way before.

Oh man, the self burping lids are where it's at! I switched to those after ruining a whole batch of pickles from over burping... felt like such a rookie mistake. @hollyc92 once I stopped messing with the jars every day, my ferments started tasting way better too. Now I just let them do their thing in the corner and only peek if something looks weird. It's like they finally figured out how to breathe on their own, you know?

Oh come on, I gotta push back a little here! Self burping lids sound fancy but isn't that just another thing to buy and worry about? @the_fiona my grandma fermented pickles in regular jars for forty years and never had a batch go bad. She just burped em when she felt like it and everything turned out fine. Seems like you all are overcomplicating something that's been working forever. Plus don't those special lids cost like twice as much for no real reason? I tried a set once and they actually clogged up on me, had to poke em with a toothpick every day anyway. Sometimes the old ways are the best ways if you ask me, no need to reinvent the wheel over a few jars of pickles.
