Wasted $300 on a 'high heat' respirator that melted in under a month

I bought a fancy respirator online for pouring bronze, thinking the extra cost meant it could handle the radiant heat near the furnace. The face seal started to warp and get soft after maybe three weeks of use, making it useless and a safety risk. What brand do you guys actually trust for hot work that lasts more than a season?

Ouch, that's brutal! You'd think "high heat" meant it could handle, you know, actual heat. Sounds like it was made for a very cool day near a toaster oven instead. Nothing worse than gear failing right when you need it most.

I mean, how high was this heat really, @morganhill? My old backpack from a gas station has held up fine in some pretty hot cars.

Ever wonder what they actually mean by "high heat" on the label? I had a jacket melt in my car once, and it was maybe 90 degrees out. @charlie_ellis is right, some cheap stuff just holds up better. Now I just leave anything important in the shade or take it with me, never trust the tag. Learned that the hard way after ruining a perfectly good pair of sunglasses.
