I finally caved and paid $300 for a proper bookkeeping software after my spreadsheet system crashed.
It automatically tracks invoices and expenses, which saved me from a tax-time panic last quarter, but I'm wondering if there's a cheaper tool that works just as well?

Feel your pain, my spreadsheets have crashed at the worst times too.

Have you looked into Wave? I saw a blog post saying it's free for the basics like invoices and expense tracking.
