Hot take: My town's last furniture finishing supply store just became a coffee shop, and it hits different.
I remember when that place smelled like tung oil and sawdust, not espresso beans.

Do you ever worry that these changes strip away what made your town unique in the first place? I remember going to places like that with my dad when I was a kid. Now it's all coffee shops and generic stores. It makes me wonder if we're trading useful things for trendy ones. Sure, coffee is nice, but where do local craftsmen go for supplies now? Maybe I'm overthinking it, but it feels like a loss of character.

Honestly @the_joel, that bit about loss of character hits home, but I kinda wonder if it's as serious as it feels. Places always shift, and now those coffee shops might be where neighbors actually talk and plan stuff. Tbh, local craftsmen probably just get their supplies online or from pop-up markets these days. It's different, but not always a total swap of useful for trendy.
