A comment about my video lighting totally changed my setup
Someone said my review of the Logitech webcam looked 'like a ghost story' because the light was behind me. I moved a cheap ring light in front and the difference is night and day, anyone have a good budget key light under $50?
Yeah, that part about ring lights being harsh really hits home. I read a whole thing from a photographer who said that perfect circle reflection in the eyes can look pretty unnatural. It makes sense that a bigger, softer light source would just look more like regular room light, just brighter. I tried using a plain old lamp with a white sheet over it once and it was shockingly decent. Makes you wonder why we buy special gear sometimes.
Ring lights are actually pretty harsh for video calls, they give that weird reflection in your eyes. A simple LED panel with a diffuser is much softer on the face. The Neewer brand on Amazon has some decent small ones right in your budget.
