Vent: After revisiting some vintage sci-fi anthologies, I got hit with this weird nostalgia for how straightforward alien encounters used to be.
I mean, idk, maybe it's just me but it feels like we've traded those clear-cut first contact stories for layers of political allegory that, while rich, sometimes lose that sense of wonder.

Yeah, been there... I keep a stack of Asimov or Clarke shorts by the bed for when modern sci-fi feels like homework. Skim a story before sleep... it's like a palette cleanser for the imagination.
