My neighbor kept telling me to water my grass at 5am back in 2019

I thought she was just being crazy until my whole block's lawns turned brown during that July heatwave and mine stayed green, guess she knew what she was talking about, anyone else have a neighbor give weird advice that actually worked?

My neighbor once told me to put banana peels in my tomato holes, figured I'd look like a lunatic digging through the compost bin at midnight but those were the best tomatoes I've ever grown. Turns out I'm just the kind of guy who needs a crazy person to tell me the obvious stuff that actually works. What's the weirdest yard tip you've followed that paid off?

idk, I'm gonna push back on this a little. Most of the time your neighbor's "wisdom" is just some grandma myth that doesn't hold up to like, any real gardening science. You probably just got lucky with the timing and your soil was already decent, not because banana peels are some magic fertilizer.

Man, I gotta say I was with Cora on this for a long time. But I read a University extension article a few years back that actually showed banana peels breaking down and releasing potassium and phosphorus in the soil over a few months. It's not instant magic, but it's not total nonsense either. Thomas, I think your neighbor was onto something, the peels just need time to rot before the plants really use them. Your mileage may vary depending on your soil type and how fast stuff breaks down in your climate.
