Serious question, did you know the original Route 66 alignment through Albuquerque was on 4th Street, not Central?

I was reading a plaque at the old Alvarado Transportation Center yesterday and it said the first official path went right by where the train station is now, which seems wild since everyone pictures Central.

Makes sense they'd move it to Central later for more traffic... I always just assumed it was always there too. That plaque must have been a real surprise.

My buddy got super into Route 66 history last year and had the same shock. He drove his whole family down 4th Street first before realizing his mistake.

Oh man, that's rough. I mean, it's an easy mix-up to make with the history. At least it's a funny story now.

Yeah, that plaque surprise. Makes you wonder how many other old roads we drive on without knowing their real history, right?
