Firmware update bricked my HVAC controller last week - be careful with smart home AI updates
It was a Rheem unit, less than 2 years old. I came home from a job site in Albuquerque last Thursday and my house was 94 degrees. The app said it was running fine but the blower never kicked on. Called tech support, they blamed the latest 'AI efficiency' firmware patch they pushed out Tuesday. Rolled it back myself and it fired right up. Has anyone else had a smart thermostat or HVAC controller get killed by one of these so-called AI updates? I'm worried it's gonna happen again.

That "AI efficiency" patch line from support sounds like a total cop-out. Did they give you any way to block future updates, or are we just stuck hoping they don't push another dud?

Ngl my devices are basically beta testers for their own features at this point.
