Learned a hard lesson about overcrowding at a friend's house party

I was at my friend Sarah's place in Denver last Saturday and she offered to air fry some frozen fries. She crammed the whole bag into the basket and they came out soggy and uneven. I told her to try doing a single layer next time and she looked at me like I was crazy. Has anyone else had to convince someone that half full is actually better for crispiness?

Have you tried telling her it's basically science - the moisture needs room to escape or you just end up steaming everything? I've had this argument with multiple people and now I just bring my own basket to parties.

...and then I'd have to explain that I'm the guy who ruined the potluck with dry chicken. Honestly I stopped trying to convince people and just started eating sad, soggy food to keep the peace. Some hills aren't worth dying on, especially when they're covered in steamed broccoli.

My buddy Steve tried that "moisture needs room to escape" line at a family BBQ and his aunt just stared at him like he'd insulted her grandmother's casserole dish. She actually said "are you a scientist now?" and wouldn't let him near the food table for the rest of the night. He ended up eating dry hot dog buns and a single sad piece of corn because he wasn't brave enough to bring his own basket like you. The guy's been eating cold leftovers in his car before family dinners ever since.
