Last night I compared Crunchyroll subs and Funimation dubs for Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
I was rewatching the big reveal scene around episode 40 and decided to check both versions side by side. The subtitles kept more of the original Japanese phrasing about equivalent exchange, while the dub changed some key lines to flow better in English. I ended up liking the subs more for accuracy, but a friend at my local anime club in Portland said the dub's delivery of 'Ed...ward' gives him chills every time. Anybody else have a strong preference for one over the other with this series?

Oh man, I used to swear by the dubs for everything but after going back and forth on this exact scene you're talking about, the subs just hit harder. The original phrasing lands way better for me now.

Episode 40 is actually in the 50s on Crunchyroll since they split the seasons differently.

Wait, so the episode numbers are completely different depending on where you watch? That's wild. @nguyen.tara I ran into that same confusion when I was trying to catch up with my buddy last month. He kept saying he was on episode 60 and I was like "dude I'm barely halfway through." Turns out we were watching the exact same spot just labeled differently. Made me wonder why streaming services can't just stick to the original numbering. Really threw off our whole watch party plan when I told him I'd be at episode 42 and he showed up ready for something totally different.
