Read a post saying you can fix deep scratches with clear nail polish and absolutely should not do that
Saw someone in a Facebook car group swearing they fixed a hood scratch with nail polish and a hairdryer. I get that people want a cheap fix, but clear nail polish is not a UV stable product. Within about 6 months that stuff will yellow and crack, then you have to sand and blend a bigger spot. Had a guy bring a car into our lot last year who tried the same trick on a door panel, we had to re-spray the whole thing for $400. You really think a $3 bottle from CVS is going to outlast factory clear coat? Anyone else get these DIY disasters rolling through your shop?

Wait, people actually tried that thinking it would last? That's just painful to hear. Gotta feel for the guy who ended up having to shell out $400 for a door panel that probably looked fine for a couple months.

Man, I've definitely been that guy thinking cheap fixes are the answer. My car's interior looks like a craft project gone wrong too.

looked fine for a couple months" yeah that's pretty much how it goes. I used to think those cheap fixes were just as good honestly, like why pay more when you can get the same look right? But seeing people talk about how fast they fall apart and the mess it makes later really changed my mind. @jesse994 your comment about the interior looking like a craft project got me because that's exactly what I was trying to avoid and I almost went that route. Now I'm thinking maybe I should just save up and do it properly the first time instead of having to redo everything in a year.
