Pro tip: stop overthinking your pack weight and just take a scale to the grocery store aisle

I spent weeks obsessing over grams online, then brought my empty pack to Safeway and weighed 10 different cheese blocks until I found one that hit the sweet spot for my PCT leg, and now I get why ultralight folks never tell you this trick.

Actually bought my full pack too @the_matthew, felt a little ridiculous standing in the dairy aisle with it hanging off my shoulder. I used to just grab the lightest looking package and hope for the best, but after one trip where my cheese was basically a brick, I figured I needed to get serious. Ended up finding a nice soft brie that was almost 40% lighter than the cheddar I usually grab, plus it was way more satisfying after a long day of hiking.

Lol I haven't gone that far yet but I'm def tempted to bring a scale next time. My back can't take another surprise block of hard cheese masquerading as a lightweight option.

Wait you actually brought a whole empty pack into the grocery store and weighed cheese blocks? That's next level dedication, I'm kinda jealous I didn't think of that first.
