The JMT is way too crowded now. Maybe skip it for the TRT.

I did the JMT last August and it felt like a highway with people lining up for campsites. Has anyone done the Tahoe Rim Trail as a quieter alternative this season?

My buddy tried the TRT last June and said it was a completely different world. He was prepped for crowds based on what I told him about the JMT, but he had whole stretches of trail to himself for hours. He did run into some people around the popular lakes and campgrounds, but nothing like the constant line of hikers on the JMT. He actually got a site without a reservation at a backcountry spot, which on the JMT is basically a fantasy. The views are more "big forest and big lake" than "big granite and big peaks," but he said the quiet made up for it. Did he end up doing any of the side trails up to some peaks for higher views?

Kinda like how every popular hiking spot is getting that way now.
