Tried to build a birdhouse last Saturday and ended up with a squirrel mansion
I figured I'd finally use that scrap wood pile I've been ignoring for 2 years. Grabbed some cedar planks, a hammer, and nails. My goal was a simple wren house. Well, I measured wrong about 3 times, the roof slants like a funhouse mirror, and the entrance hole is big enough for a raccoon. Now there's a fat squirrel living in it eating all my sunflower seeds. Has anyone else's simple project turn into something ridiculous?

Gotta agree with @kim693 here. That squirrel probably thinks you're a genius. Now you've got free entertainment watching him haul sunflower seeds up there like he's moving into his dream home. Honestly sounds more fun than a boring wren box nobody even notices.

Oh come on, you're actually trying to say this is a fail? That squirrel mansion sounds way more useful than some boring wren box. Wrens are tiny and loud and honestly kind of annoying. That squirrel is probably the best thing that could have happened to your yard. He's paying rent by eating your seeds, keeping the bird feeder clean. Plus now you have a story to tell at parties instead of "oh yeah I built a perfectly square box that nobody cares about." You accidentally upgraded from a starter home to a luxury condo.
