Found a weird trick for fixing dry dough that actually saved my batch

Was making a big batch of sourdough on Tuesday and added too much flour by accident, ended up with this crumbly mess that wouldn't come together. Tried spritzing water from a spray bottle while kneading, like 3 or 4 squirts at a time, and within 2 minutes the dough turned normal. Has anyone else tried this method or do you just toss it and start over?

Yeah, that "2-3 sprays max" thing faith684 mentioned is key. I learned that the hard way when I turned my dough into soup and had to keep adding flour, then water, then flour again, it was like a science experiment gone wrong.

Wait, did you say you added too much flour to a sourdough batch? That's actually pretty hard to do with sourdough since it's so wet to begin with lol. But yeah, the spray bottle trick is legit, I've been doing it for years when my dough gets a bit stiff. One thing though, you gotta be careful not to overdo it with the water because then you'll end up with a sticky mess that's even harder to fix. I usually do 2-3 sprays max and then give it a good knead before adding more.

Been there myself, a little water mist usually saved the day for me too.
