My grandma called my sourdough 'too much work' and it kinda stung

She was visiting last weekend and watched me do my whole feeding routine, then said 'you know wonderbread is 3 bucks and tastes just fine.' It hit different because she used to bake everything from scratch, but I guess she was telling me not to overcomplicate things for myself. Has anyone else gotten roasted by a family member about how much effort you put into baking?

Take grandma's advice with a grain of salt - literally, since she probably forgot that sourdough doesn't need any store bought yeast. My uncle once told me my brioche looked like "a depressed loaf of bread shaped like a shoe" and then asked for seconds. Next time she brings up Wonderbread, remind her that your starter has a name and feelings.

Can't believe nobody pointed out the biggest issue here. Grandma probably doesn't even eat bread anymore. She switched to those low carb tortillas two years ago and just wants to feel included in your hobby. That's the real secret here. She's not giving baking advice, she's trying to stay relevant at the dinner table. Next time she brings up Wonderbread just hand her a slice of your sourdough and say "this one has a name, grandma, and it's Steve." Watch her face when she realizes she's eating something with more personality than her bridge club.
